Templo II is my imaginary sanctuary in the middle of NYC, it's an offering space where symbols from Mesoamerican cosmologies and personal memory converge. Each artwork contributes an element of the temple. Rooted in earth: Pyramids from Zapotec architectures; female deities that embody creativity, earth, and water; Ahuacatl (avocados) as a gesture to nourishment and ancestral abundance; a garden of figures and shadows; and the cactus, a living emblem of Mexico's resilience. Rooted in water: The dorado fish, an important symbol of the Pacific, of Sinaloa—my point of origin—anchors me to the cycles of migration and transformation. A Treasure, the Great Mayan Coral Reef as an underwater living altar.
The work was collaged, painted, sewn and embroidered between Mexico, Puglia, and NYC.
